AIKIDO
Aikido is one of the modern traditional
Japanese budo (martial arts). Many students are attracted to aikido
because of it's philosophy based on harmonious conflict resolution. Because of the widespread practice of aikido, the art has taken on many
different forms since the days prior to the Founder's death. While
there are many consistent techniques amongst most aikido dojo (training
halls), no two aikido styles are exactly the same.
Shinzui Kan Aikido Dojos offer an extensive
curriculum that teaches proven techniques which have been passed down
through an undisputable historical lineage. These time-tested
techniques and strategies are adapted to be relevant in today's modern
society. Aikido is a Japanese budo and thus follows principle-based
teaching which stresses the martial virtues of the samurai warrior.
Everything in life can be positively
influence by aikido and budo. Aikido training at our dojo teaches
aikido and budo history, philosophy, vocabulary, reigi (etiquette), ibuki
no ho (breathing method), meditation, aiki taiso (aikido body movements),
ukemi (falling skills), self-defense skills, physical conditioning, joint
locks, striking, traps, parries, multiple attack defenses, kick defenses,
jo kata (staff forms), and much more.
Our objective is to explore and utilize the
martial strategies and techniques of aikido through diligent training with
a budo mindset.
We will implement traditional,
principle-based teachings and diligent training methods to cultivate the
warrior spirit in students of all levels.
Focus will remain on proven fundamentals,
for these are the keys to skills proficiency, while we will also be open
to the study of methods considered outside of the "normal" orthodox aikido
paradigm, in order to fill areas where there may be strategic
deficiencies.
Developing a habit of consistent training is
the key to building practical, usable skills and to forging a strong mind,
body, and spirit.
BuDO
This is a Japanese term that pays homage to the ways of the samurai, and
it implies much more than the development of self-defense or fighting
skills. The budo practitioner also focuses on
the development of the self. Diligent training expands beyond skills
proficiency and acts as a medium by which to develop the mind, body, and
spirit. Therefore, the budo practitioner can apply what they learn
beyond the dojo into everyday life. This approach leads to a way of
harmonizing with one's environment, and with other aspects of life.
Etiquette, discipline, respect, and consistent training all contribute to
positive outcomes which expand beyond the desire or ability to defeat an
opponent.
