The Aikido of Jacksonville Dojo was
established by Perry Lambert, Renshi in 2000 to spread the teachings of
aikido to the Jacksonville, FL area. Aikido is a Japanese martial
art. The word "aikido" is made up of three characters: ai -
which means "to blend or harmonize", ki - which means "energy", and
do - which means "the way or path". Thus, aikido seeks to
blend with the energy of an attack in order to effect a defense.
While aikido is one of the newer Japanese budo (martial ways), and
while the Founder of aikido spent his lifetime studying a multitude of
martial arts, the roots of aikido are drawn mainly from various styles of
Japanese Jujutsu.
Aikido is an art for everyone because the
techniques of aikido do not rely on size or strength. Aikido is an
effective means of self defense, health, and fitness. Aikido is not
a competition art, therefore, it is not restricted by rules of
competition; whatever works can be used. That being said, the dojo
(training hall) seeks to teach effective techniques in a safe and
controlled environment to all skill levels.
On December 27th, 2011, Dr. H.T. Hamada,
Hanshi, International Chairman of the prestigious Japanese martial arts
organization, Dai Nippon Butoku Kai, bestowed the dojo name Shinzui Kan
Aikido Dojo to the Jacksonville dojo. The Richmond, VA dojo and the
Forsyth, GA dojo are now also part of Shinzui Kan. Shinzui Kan means
Hall of Quintessence. This name was given to help create a new
chapter to the unending quest of reaching the quintessence of Aikido
spirit.
The Dai Nippon Butoku Kai is Japan’s most prestigious
martial arts society chaired by His Royal Highness Sosai, Higashifushimi
and it is located in Kyoto, Japan.
